India · To the Sacred Rivers

The journey’s concept

From bustling Delhi to Haridwar's evening lights, river confluences and the high-altitude temples of Kedarnath and Badrinath. The journey gradually reveals the Ganges' place in Indian culture through cities, pilgrimage roads, mountain valleys and time by the water. A demanding walking section requires discussion of pace and conditions before confirmation.

THREE REASONS TO CHOOSE THIS ROUTE

What makes this journey special

01

Rivers and their confluences

At Devprayag the Bhagirathi meets the Alaknanda. The road continues through valleys and riverside towns: water becomes the thread linking the entire journey.

02

Kedarnath and Badrinath

Two important pilgrimage centres reveal different sides of Himalayan temple tradition. The approach to Kedarnath is an experience in itself and requires preparation.

03

Time in Rishikesh

At the end there is time for walks beside the Ganges, rest and an agreed programme of group practices.

THE ROUTE

Delhi — Haridwar — Rishikesh — Guptkashi — Kedarnath — Badrinath — Rudraprayag — Delhi

PLACES AND EXPERIENCES

Proposed itinerary

The stages below outline a possible route rather than a confirmed departure schedule. Duration, transfers and visits are adapted to the chosen period and the group’s interests.

After arrival and rest, we choose a city route suited to the available time: Lakshmi Narayan, Qutb Minar and central districts. We meet the guide and discuss the mountain section ahead.

We travel from Delhi to Haridwar. At Har Ki Pauri we observe life on the ghats and, schedule permitting, the evening waterside ceremony. We then continue to Rishikesh.

The road climbs along river valleys. We stop at Devprayag's confluence, then continue to Guptkashi, scheduling temple visits around the transfer.

A long mountain walk begins near Gaurikund. Departure time, guiding and overnight accommodation are agreed in advance. Temple visits depend on the season and current access rules.

We return from the mountain section and travel to Rudraprayag. Allowing rest after the walk is particularly important today.

We climb further up the Alaknanda Valley to explore Badrinath and its temple tradition. Ceremony participation follows local rules.

We leave the high mountains. The road offers another view of changing landscapes; stops depend on weather and the group's condition.

We return to the Ganges and a gentler rhythm. After check-in, enjoy a free evening or a riverside walk.

Time for rest, riverside walks and sessions with your group leader. Practices and ashram visits are included by prior agreement.

We return to the capital, allowing time for the road and rest. Additional visits depend on actual arrival time.

Free time and a transfer timed to the agreed flight. This sequence is a basic example adapted to the group.

Practical notes and preparation

  • The mountain section is seasonal: temple opening, roads and permits are checked for the selected dates.
  • The Kedarnath walk requires readiness for sustained walking; physical demands, equipment and participants' abilities are discussed in advance.
  • In active temples we follow rules on dress, photography and ceremony participation.
  • We determine overnight stops and mountain time buffers after transport and route conditions are agreed.
