India · The Breath of Gujarat

The journey’s concept

Gujarat reveals another India: stepwells and a sun temple, Jain shrines, ancient Lothal, Gir's lion forests and Kutch's craft traditions. The journey combines architectural exploration, small towns and a nature excursion. Stops and duration are refined for your group.

THREE REASONS TO CHOOSE THIS ROUTE

What makes this journey special

01

The architecture of water and sun

Patan and Modhera show stone, light and water systems forming a single space. Carved details and unusual perspectives reward a longer look.

02

Palitana and Jain culture

The hilltop temple complex introduces a major Indian spiritual tradition. The ascent takes time and fitness; visiting arrangements are discussed in advance.

03

Gir and the crafts of Kutch

Nature observation is complemented by Bhuj's workshops: textiles, embroidery, bandhani dyeing and local artisans at work.

PLACES AND EXPERIENCES

Proposed itinerary

The stages below outline a possible route rather than a confirmed departure schedule. Duration, transfers and visits are adapted to the chosen period and the group’s interests.

We explore old neighbourhoods and Sabarmati Ashram. The city introduces Gujarat's trade, civic life and culture.

In Patan we explore stepwell architecture, then visit Modhera's Sun Temple. A rich day for lovers of patterns, stone sculpture and photography.

An archaeological stop dedicated to the Indus Valley civilisation. Access to specific areas and displays is confirmed before travel.

After exploring Bhavnagar we visit Palitana's Jain temples. The ascent, departure time and an alternative for those staying below are agreed for the group.

The fort, old churches and streets with Portuguese heritage give way to the Arabian Sea coast. Time remains for walks and rest.

Safaris require confirmed permits and follow reserve rules. Asiatic lions live in the wild, so sightings are not guaranteed.

We explore Naulakha Palace and accessible exhibitions. The car collection can be visited after checking opening arrangements.

In workshops and craft settlements we learn about local fabrics, embroidery and dyeing. Specific encounters depend on group interests and artisans' availability.

Final transfers and the departure airport depend on the chosen itinerary length. More time can be devoted to architecture, nature or crafts.

Practical notes and preparation

  • Distances in Gujarat are substantial: stops are balanced against comfortable travel times.
  • Safari permits and archaeological-site access require separate confirmation.
  • Palitana involves a long stair ascent; participation arrangements are discussed before travel.
  • Artisan encounters and temple visits depend on the local calendar and access rules.
