Music of the Spheres / Cello Therapy at Sea

Seven days of cello, voice, breath and seascapes as a shared creative practice. In Lana Grün and Evgenia Maslova's concept, participants explore sound and presence, from first touching the instrument to a small performance of their own. All levels of musical experience are welcome. Planetary themes provide imagery for each day.

Who this programme is for

For groups interested in shared musical practice; prior experience is discussed with the facilitators.

What makes this journey special

Cello from the first session

Discover the instrument through touch, vibration and simple sounds. Tasks suit your experience; beginners need no previous musical training.

The Path to the Stage

Work with voice, breath, movement and audience attention suits creative and public-facing professions. Personal goals can be integrated into the shared cycle.

The sea between sessions

Swimming, rest and possible dolphin observation outings alternate with practice. Weather and crew decisions determine the sea programme.

Detailed itinerary

Explore the day-by-day programme below. Open any section for details. Dates, pace and visits are agreed for your group.

Meet the group and setting. Bring attention to the body, boundaries and hand position, take up the cello and try the first sound. The musical cycle begins with the note A.

Through movement, breath and sound, explore personal presence. Begin finding your own sound and making music together.

Notice changes in rhythm and effort. Discover pizzicato: producing a simple sound becomes an exercise in coordination and attention.

Move to the bow: direction, speed and force change the sound. Discuss the difference between an automatic reaction and a chosen action.

Combine both hands, breath and voice. Interact through sound and listening, creating short musical pieces together.

Practice using Lana Grün's Path to the Stage method. Individual work on voice, bodily coordination, performance or a personal creative aim may be possible.

Bring the experience together in a final musical circle. Each participant chooses a form: cello, voice, song, poem, spoken words or a combination. Time remains for discussion and closure.
