The Chuya Highway, Karakol Valley, Aktash and Kyzyl-Chin: a longer journey through Altai’s changing landscapes and cultural memory.
Example: 10 days · private group · dates on request
Novosibirsk — Manzherok — Chemal — Karakol — Aktash — Kyzyl-Chin — Gorno-Altaysk
Ten days for a substantial overland journey through Altai: from Novosibirsk and Manzherok to Chemal, the Chuya Highway, Karakol Valley and the red slopes of Kyzyl-Chin. The road matters as much as the stops: passes, river valleys, ancient images on stone and transitions between natural zones.
This is an itinerary concept on request, not a confirmed departure. Hotels, guides, transport, visits, price and the final service list are confirmed for each group.
Seminsky and Chike-Taman passes reveal the scale of the mountain road. Stops allow time for landscape and local history.
Geyser Lake, the Red Gates and Kyzyl-Chin’s “Mars” landscapes create a visually striking part of the route.
Karakol Valley, Adyr-Kan and Kalbak-Tash introduce Altai’s cultural memory and respectful ways to visit significant places.
For international cultural, nature and community groups. Walking, language and accommodation are tailored to the actual travellers.
Explore the key places along the journey. Browse the photographs; the detailed day-by-day itinerary follows below.

The square and opera theatre reveal the scale of a Siberian city. City and museum visits are matched to arrival times and the road ahead.

The view from the ski station introduces the transition from Siberia’s plains to Altai’s mountains. A cable-car ascent depends on operations and weather.

Turquoise water, rocky banks and the church on Patmos connect Chemal’s landscape and cultural story. Walks are chosen around participants’ abilities.

The winding road and changing mountain layers make the drive part of the experience. Panorama stops connect with the history of travel through Altai.

The small lake draws attention through colour and patterns on its bed. View it from permitted walkways; access and rules are checked in advance.

Red and ochre layers create a “Martian” landscape. Observe geological forms and take photographs while following the agreed walking route.

Petroglyphs turn the mountain road into a conversation about cultural memory. View them with guidance and respect the monument’s protection rules.
Photographs illustrate places, not a guaranteed season, weather or specific service.
The overnight sequence is agreed with the route and the group’s flights. Any additional night before an international flight is quoted separately.
Open a day for details. The order of visits is refined when your journey is planned.
Arrive and rest. A cultural introduction can include the Sun Museum, the Nicholas Roerich Museum and the Ascension Cathedral, according to availability.
Drive towards Altai, settle in and consider the ascent to Malaya Sinyukha when the cable car and weather allow. First views of the Katun and mountain valley.
Tavdinsky caves, Kamyshlinsky waterfall and a walk around Chemal. Any water-based segment is confirmed against river conditions.
Oroktoy Bridge, Che-Chkysh, viewpoints and Patmos Island. Distribute the walking sections according to participants’ abilities.
Travel over Seminsky and Chike-Taman passes. In the valley, learn about local culture and the meaning of places while following the local guide’s advice.
Geyser Lake, the Red Gates and Ulagan Pass. Choose the actual sequence according to accommodation locations and road conditions.
Red and multicoloured slopes at “Mars-1” and “Mars-2”. Allow time for walking, observing geological forms and photography.
Explore the sanctuary and petroglyphs with a guide, discussing their imagery and the rules that protect the monuments.
Visit the Anokhin National Museum if opening hours allow, then continue towards Novosibirsk. This is a long travel day.
Transfer to Tolmachevo for the agreed flight. The preceding night in Novosibirsk separates the long overland journey from the airport connection.
Build the journey around architecture, museums, crafts, food and conversations with local people. Special encounters are arranged after agreement.
Allow room for a thematic meeting or a session led by your own host. Venue, interpreting and content are included in the planning process.
Adjust walking, service, accommodation and breaks to the travellers. Suitable arrangements for children or reduced mobility are checked separately.
Check the season, roads, protected-area access, walking conditions and water outings for the actual dates. Mountain weather can require changes.
Select accommodation with the group. Mountain bases and rural stays may differ substantially from city hotels; facilities, bathrooms, heating and room arrangements must be confirmed before booking.
Allow for long road journeys, uneven paths, steps and weather-dependent activities. Confirm walking distances, fitness needs, alternatives and any required permits, especially for mountain or protected areas, before booking. Boats, cable cars and off-road transfers are included only when expressly agreed.
Accommodation, transport, guiding, meals, tickets and special encounters are listed in the individual proposal. Publication of the itinerary confirms neither availability nor inclusion. Named hosts, Luminary, workshops and optional activities require separate confirmation.
Unless your individual proposal states otherwise, international flights, visa expenses, insurance, personal purchases, single-room supplements, tips and additional activities are considered separately. Documentation and insurance requirements are checked against the programme actually selected.
The quotation is prepared for your group after confirming season, numbers, accommodation, guiding language, meals and special activities. The proposal specifies inclusions, supplements, confirmation steps and change conditions. Publishing an itinerary does not confirm a price or service availability.
Before booking, check entry requirements for each traveller’s nationality, current official advice, location restrictions, insurance, transport and payment arrangements. Acceptance of a particular foreign bank card is not promised. Required permits and expenses are identified in the agreed service list.
This is a tailor-made itinerary outline. Dates, group composition and services are agreed before quotation and confirmation. Publication does not mean an open departure or reserved places.
The guiding language is specified in the proposal. International groups can request English; Hindi, Turkish, German and other languages require a separate availability check. Website translations do not confirm a guide in every language on every date.
Tell us your specific requirements: vegetarian or Jain meals, halal preferences, ingredient restrictions and allergies. We check the selected hotels and restaurants. The confirmed menu and preparation arrangements are agreed separately; preferences are never assumed from nationality.
Yes. Discuss thematic sessions, activities and time for your group. Host, venue, equipment, interpreting and schedule are confirmed separately. Evgenia Maslova or any other named author is not automatically included.
Include your company, source market, numbers, proposed dates and group requirements in the itinerary enquiry. WST’s partnership page is available for cooperation discussions. Commercial terms are agreed separately; this itinerary creates no new automatic discounts or commissions.
Tell us your group size, dates, language, interests and dietary requests. We will prepare a tailored itinerary outline and quotation.
Photographs illustrate places on the route; mountain visibility and the current appearance of locations may differ. Images have been proportionally resized and converted to WebP, retaining the original framing. Derivatives retain the original licences.
